- Most patients have medical assistance to cover dental care
- There is no financial limit to this insurance so we are able to provide
the treatment which we think is best for patients
- Insurance covers Restorative, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Pediatrics,
Limited Prosthodontics which includes crowns and dentures, partials
14
- For the procedures that insurance does not cover, the program offers the
opportunity for residents to provide the service to the patient at
cost—ie, patient to pay for lab fees.
- This includes cosmetics, bridges, implants, etc
- We often do selected perio sx
like crown lengthening, gingivectomy, distal wedge, etc at no cost to
the patient if the resident wishes to gain experience in that area

- We choose how much time we need for each procedure
18
- Every Tuesday we do 3 or 4 OR cases under general anesthesia
- One attending and one resident is blocked out for the day
- Patients are generally pediatric and special care cases.
19
- Every quarter the whole dental team breaks into small groups and
role-plays various emergencies, we learn how to properly handle the
situation
- Residents play role as “doctor” so we are forced to play out each
emergency step by step
- Attendings supervise the small groups to make sure everyone is learning
the correct steps to make sure everyone is learning the correct
emergency protocol
