WellSpan York Hospital Pharmacy Residency Programs

York Hospital Pharmacy Residenct

WellSpan York Hospital's Pharmacy Residency program features PGY1 and PGY2 programs accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to become competent pharmacy practitioners.

The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program (PGY1) offers residents flexibility and an opportunity to practice in a progressive environment that focuses on rational and cost-effective drug therapy. The one-year program provides pharmacy residents the opportunity to establish evidence-based practice, educate patients and other healthcare providers about drug therapy, evaluate medical literature, conduct two research projects, and assume responsibility for drug therapy outcomes.

These skills are developed through a combination of clinical experiences as a participant in interdisciplinary rounds with nurses, dietitians, residents, and attending physicians. Additionally, resident skills are developed through staffing opportunities and experiences in our inpatient pharmacy department.

Expand and develop specialty skills

The Critical Care Residency Program (PGY2) provides pharmacists the opportunity to expand and develop specialty care skills in drug therapy management of critically ill patients.  WellSpan York Hospital features a Level 1 trauma center and a total of 40 intensive care unit beds, including medical, trauma/neurosurgical, coronary, cardiothoracic and two transitional care units.

Additionally, residents gain experience working in an emergency department environment, as well as practice opportunities in palliative care and pain management.

On the following web pages you will find descriptions of these residency programs, as well as all directions for application. Materials available include application procedures, preceptor information, current residents, program graduates, scholarly activity and a benefits summary. If you are interested in an exciting opportunity to join our team, please submit the required materials to the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) by January 15th.

If you have any questions about our residency program, please contact our administrative assistant,  Christine Reed, at (717) 851-2787 or via e-mail at creed@wellspan.org.
