York Hospital Pharmacy Residency Programs

York Hospital Pharmacy ResidenctYork Hospital's Pharmacy Residency features two programs designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to become competent pharmacy practitioners. Both programs are accredited the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program (PGY-1) offers residents flexibility and an opportunity to practice in a progressive environment that focuses on rational and cost-effective drug therapy. The one-year program offers pharmacists the opportunity to establish evidence-based practice, educate patients and other care providers about medication use, evaluate medical literature and product research, affect change in pharmacy practice, and add value to our patients.

These skills are developed through a combination of clinical experiences as a participant in interdisciplinary rounds with nurses, dietitians, resident and attending physicians. Additionally, resident skills are developed through staffing opportunities and experiences in our inpatient pharmacy department.

Expand and develop specialty skillsThe Critical Care Residency Program (PGY-2) provides pharmacists the opportunity to expand and develop specialty care skills in drug therapy management of critically ill patients. While working with nurses, dietitians, resident physicians and intensive care unit attendings, the resident will learn to add additional value to patients. York Hospital features a total of 40 intensive care unit beds, including a medical, trauma-neuro, coronary and surgical intensive care units.

Additionally, residents gain experience working in emergency department environment, as well as practice opportunities in palliative care and pain management and step-down units.
